LAST MEETING!!!!! :O

I am the...
WAIT FOR IT...

ILLUSTRATOR!
I actually did it on my home computer. And it's at home. So... I will be uploading the picture from there. For now, here's my summary:

I drew the part where April is being strangled by the strange red-haired man. Marshall is hiding under the platform with Security in his hands and the Proffessor is looking through the window. I imagined it with a bit more motion but I hate drawing and I'm horrible at it, anyway, so here's the best you get :)

OK SO... I'M ON THE COMPUTER... I'M GOING TO GO UPLOAD IT NOW ^-^

Vocabulary Enricher - Yoonji - 5th Time - THE LAST! :D D:

Hello all, I was the vocabulary enricher this time, so I found five words which I was unsure or didn't know about, and sorry if that's not a lot, because I know most English words (unless they're scientific, like something-phobia, etc.).

Other people didn't have any other opinions about the definitions or the words, so I didn't write any opinions or statements.

1. Hark

This word was in the chapter "Christmas Keys" (the last chapter of the whole book, if you count the small glimpse of another book by Zilpha Keatley Snyder) in page 211, the second paragraph, while the Professor (the owner of the old antique shop) was explaining and telling the "Egypt" kids (the main protagonists: Toby, Ken, April, Melanie, and Marshall) a story.

Definition: It is an order which mostly adults use on children, meaning "listen" or "stop and listen to me".

2. Behalf

Behalf was in the chapter "Christmas Keys" (all of my unknown words are in this chapter), page 209, paragraph 4. This was also when the Professor was speaking to the children, and Marshall and Toby were thinking.

My opinion: I actually thought 'behalf' actually meant something about being half, or just 'half' in general, and now I know it isn't.

Definition: Behalf means in the interests of someone, a person, a group, or a discussion. It can also mean that 'as a representative of...(something)'.

3. Conceived

This word was also in "Christmas Keys", page 209, paragraph 3. This was also in the same part as the word 'behalf' (look above), when the Professor explains.

Definition: (Okay, I am just going to put one definition of conceived, because I think the other one is not the definition used in the sentence.) Conceived means to form or devise a plan or an idea in the mind/head.

My opinion: I had no opinion or thought about this word, except for one, which was that I knew the other definition of this word (which I don't prefer to share), which I learned while reading the summary of the book 'Carry', by Stephen King.

You can find out the other definition if you want to. https://www.google.rs/?gws_rd=cr&ei=9ciMU4baOYyNyATUwoHIBg#q=conceive

4. Sheepish

Sheepish was in page 209, in the first paragraph.

Definition: Sheepish means (someone or something) showing or feeling embarrassment from shame.

My opinion: I think sheepish means that because sheep are mostly shy, and I also think 'sheep' is the origin of 'sheepish'.

5. Gradually

This word was in the second paragraph of page 208, on the part when someone (maybe it was the Professor, and I can't remember because I left the book in Ms. S's room. :( ) started to talk slowly.

Definition: Gradually means (something or someone acting) slowly, in a gradual way, or (bit by bit) by degrees.

My opinion: I actually kind of knew this word (in a way), but not quite surely. I wasn't so clear about this word, so I found out about it, and now I know.

literary luminator

hello guys I have been the literary luminator and my sentence was

"Egypt was gone forever no use thinking about it."
on page that I don't know paragraph i don't know

I thought that this sentence was funny because egipt still is with us and not gone.

Last Meeting :D Per as Discussion Director

Hey guys. Last meeting!  Now i get to be something fun! I actually get to control the literature circle!  I do have some questions that require a bit of thinking. Some do, some don't.
I know i only have to write what the people in my lit circles group has to say (6B) but i would like the other group that is doing lit circles on the Egypt game (6A) to write in the comments what their answer is.  Hehe, lets get started.

Question Nr. 1
Were you surprised about how the professor changed, Why?
Per's answer:  I was actually surprised in how he changed. In the beginning he was all mysterious and kind of creepy but in the last chapter he became nicer and in a way, more honest.  I think it was because of all the people that were coming to his shop that made him that way.  In conclusion, he had just become more socialized.

Yoon-Ji's answer: Yoon-Ji said "Yes, because he spent most of his life in his old shop, and it is cool how he admitted that he got over Anne."

Omayma's answer: Omayma said "I was actually surprised because i thought he was the person who tried to kill April, instead he tried to help."

Vojta's answer: Vojta said "No, because i knew he would change.  I predicted it"

Question Nr. 2
How was the last chapter(Christmas Keys) related to Christmas? Summarize what the part that you think was the most important in this chapter
Per's answer: It was related because it was during Christmas Eve and the author had put some spirit of Christmas in that chapter.  Also, the keys that the Egypt members received was like a Christmas present from the Professor.  I want to summarize the part where the Professor gives out the six keys to all of the different Egyptians.  It was a special moment because he said that there was a lock on the gate to egypt and there were six locks that could be opened with the keys.

Yoon-Ji's answer: Yoon-Ji said "It was related to Christmas because the professor gave the Christmas keys to the kids as a present.   The most important part was when the professor told the kids about everything that had happened and when he gave the keys"

Omayma's answer: Didn't read the last chapter.

Vojta's answer:  Didn't read the last chapter.

Question Nr. 3
If Mr. Schmitt's cousin wasn't crazy, what could be a reason that he confessed.
Per's answer: I think that a reason he would confess was because he was scared of the police.  I defiantly know that if i was in his shoes, in a police officers office, i would confess and be very scared.  If he wasn't crazy he would have to go to jail though.

Yoon-Ji's answer: Yoon-Ji said "Maybe he had the grudge against children"

Omayma's answer: Omayma said "Maybe because he was depressed or he did it for fun, maybe he didn't like children"

Vojta's answer: Vojta said "Maybe he wanted the angry feeling out of him"

Question Nr. 4
The last line "what do you know about Gypsies" was a sentence that can make you predict.  Can you predict what will happen in the next book.  Try to use your knowledge from this book.
Per's answer:  I think the next book will be like the one we just read.  I think that they will rebuild Egypt as a place where Gypsies live.  I have a feeling that there is going to be some type of mystery, like a murderer in the next book too.

Yoon-Ji's answer: Yoon-Ji said "Since the kids like to get obsessed with egypt they got obsessed with gypsies."

Omayma's answer: Omayma Said "Since they made the Egypt game, they may also make a place where gypsies lived. They would maybe be framed for murder."

Vojta's answer:  Vojta said "Maybe they will turn into gypsies"

Question Nr. 5
What was going through your mind when April didn't want to go to Christmas break with her mom and Nick.  Why do you think this.
Per's answer:  I think that April was doing something that she didn't think she would have done before.  One reason is that Dorothea hadn't been mailing her at all.  Another reason is that April had grown a strong relationship to the other Egyptians.  They had become best friends and they treated April a lot better that her mom did.

Yoon-Ji's answer: Yoon-Ji said "I think that she realized that her mom was evil and didn't want to be with her.  And she grew close to caroline"

Omayma's answer: Omayma said "She wanted to stay with Melanie and the other Egyptians."

Vojta's answer: Didn't read this part of the book

Thank you for reading.  Other Egypt game readers.  Please comment and tell me the answers to the questions that I asked! :(  this last meeting means it is closer to the end of the school year and many people are leaving.... Sadness!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Second to last Meeting!!!!!!!!!!!!! Per is finally Illustrator!!!!!!!!

Hi everybody!  This time i was Illustrator.  It was a bit hard because I am not the best drawer.  Well anyway, lets get going :)
The person i drew was April.  I this picture she is standing by the Altar of Set.  The other characters are Marshall, Toby, Ken, and Melanie.  They are in the back because April is the Oracle Priestess and she is setting fire to the sacred fire.  The sacred fire is in the bowl on the side of April.  She is about to take out the note with the question that Ken had written earlier.  Ken had asked if he would have been a soccer player. On the back there was an answer that no one had written, or at least no one had confessed.  Behind April is the pyramid that Melanie and April built together before Toby, Ken, and Elizabeth came.
The drawing i put effort in and I hope it looks good and not like a crazy woman holding a knife (An opinion from someone in the 6a class.
Well, thats basically it.  I am really sorry that it is late :( but i think i did a good job.
Oh and i would give this picture a 7/10 because of that i didn't have that many colors at home so it didn't look as it should in ancient egypt

Bye!!!!!!!!

The Connector

Hi, last week my job was the connector.
My connections were:

1. I have read a book called The Westing Game and it had a murder.

2. In my building I saw a man dressed in black outfit I thought it was a murder because he looked scary. I was really scared.

3. Also in my building there was this person that looked also scary and I thought it was a kidnapper because he looked strange because a year a go a man robbed a newspaper man and so I thought he was scary.

Those are my three connections.

vocab enricher

Hello folks
The funniest part of the literature circle was where I and my colleagues agreed for me to be Vocabulary enricher which is the job where you have to find as many words as possible that you do not know.
My words were:

Phooey: used to express disdain or disbelief
(Page 113 / paragraph 2)

Boy-scout: being a member of an organization of boys
(Page 115)

Exasperated: irritate intensely; infuriate
(Page 116 / paragraph 2)

Casualties: the relation of cause and effect
(Page 116)

Reluctant: unwilling; disinclined: a reluctant candidate, or struggling in opposition.
(Page 120)

Crummy: of little or no value; cheap;
(Page 126)

Untended: not cared for or attended to
Page 129)

Tossing to: agitate, disturb, or disquiet
Page 132)

Deadlock: a state in which progress is impossible, as in a dispute, produced by the counteraction of opposing forces;
(Page 133)

Loot: a collection of valued objects
(Page 134)

Crankcase:  is the housing for the crankshaft
(Page138)

Brine:
- Water saturated or strongly impregnated with salt.
- A salt and water solution for pickling.
- The sea or ocean.
- The water of the sea.
- Chemistry: any saline solution.
(Page 139)

Scum: a film or layer of foul or extraneous matter that forms on the surface of a liquid
(Page 139)

Oracle: a person who delivers authoritative, wise, or highly regarded and influential pronouncements; (especially in ancient Greece) an utterance, often ambiguous or obscure, given by a priest or priestess at a shrine as the response of a god to an inquiry.
(Page 146)

I chose this because my colleagues and I decided for me to be the vocabulary enricher and because I thought it would be fun to look at my colleagues and see how they are confused and also because I like to teach people about some things that I do know.
Thank you for reading my blog and hope you learned something.

Illustrator

This week my job was to draw something from the chapters that we read.
This is a picture of what I drew:

On this picture I drew a poker table and a spinning wheel with a ball. Basically I wanted to kind of picture what the Egypt game would actually look like I mean we read it but sometimes you just wonder what it might look like in real life. I also thought it might be a good idea to try and picture it.

The Egypt Game

The Egypt Game

This time my job was to retell the story or my job was to summarize the story.

So, Halloween was coming and like every year kids are doing  Trick OR Treat but this year some of parents didn't let there’s kids to do that and rest of  parents didn't  agreed with it. So these parents who wanted to do Trick OR Treat forced other parents who didn't want it so they needed to let there’s kids to do Trick OR Treat. So kids actually did it.

Sense I was reading Zike added a mystery: Before Halloween one girl didn't come back home because she got murdered. And then April’s, Melanie’s and Elizabeth’s parents close them in home and didn't let them go out. Theirs parents were so worried about theirs children. But April, Melanie and Elisabeth actually run out from room when was Halloween and they played their Egypt game.  When they were playing, a person felled in the middle of the Egypt game.

My group and me stopped reading till here so this is it for this blog.
Baiiiii,
See You Next Time!
Dajana Doknic 6A :-):-):-)

Connector

This time my job is connector, this job is to write down what is happen in the story and write down if  something happened same in your own life
This is what I write:
The part we read is there is a murder happened, a girl lived near to them got killed, the Egypt gang's parents are afraid their son and doctor also get killed. They don't let them go out side when they finish school. So they can't play their Egypt game. It is close to the Halloween, they plain at Halloween they run to their place when no one see them, at Halloween they ran to their place, they are playing very happy. But when they are playing, a very strange person fells in the middle of the Egypt game.

Almost the same thing happened when I was reading third grade, a child live next to me got stilled, our parents also close us in the house so we can only play on computer together. But in real life, almost every time  you do something behind parents they will find out, I don't know if their parents will find out them.

WE READ TO PAGE 104 OUT OF 204.

Connector - Yoonji - 3rd Time

Hello everyone, I was the connector this time, so I mad the connections. I am not very sure if the connections are very good, but here they are.

1. My sister and I sometimes role-play as different characters, based on different books, stories, etc. This is a connection to this one part in the book when April and her friends are pretending to be Egyptians and holding rituals and ceremonies. This happens a lot throughout the whole book, so I can't say exactly when all these role-playing happens, but I can say one of them, which was included in the 4 chapters we were assigned to read this time. It was in the chapter called "Elizabeth Diplomacy", through the whole chapter.

2. Like April and her friends, I know about Ancient Egypt, some of the myths, the gods and goddesses, monsters, and ceremonies and rituals, because I read about them. To add to that, we also learn about Ancient Egypt and the Egyptians at school in Humanities. This is throughout the whole book, so there isn't a specific part in the book about this.

3. In the first chapter of the 4 chapters our group read ("Elizabeth Diplomacy" being the first), Toby and Ken (two of the main characters) "invade", or in other words, discover Egypt (the location where April and her friends claim as Egypt and their role-playing place) to very much of April's frustration. That was because Egypt was supposed to be kept secret. Anyway, the connection to this is that once, when my sister and I were role-playing in secret, our dad found us without us wanting that to happen, and laughed at us, like Toby and Ken, who mocked April and her friends (but my dad wasn't being mean like them though).

4. So, here is the last connection. In the chapter "Moods and Maybes" (which is the second chapter), April got a letter from Hollywood, which was from her mom, Dorothea. It said that she was now married to Nick, and moved in to a new apartment, which she explained that it was far too small for April to come now and live there with them. So she told April to wait until she gets a bigger place to live, which angered April very much. She was also very sad, so she starts crying. I read a book called 'The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time', which has a similar family problem to April's, which I just explained. It is about a boy called Chris, whose mom was married to his dad until she loved another lady's husband and got divorced. I think she got married to him, and Chris is depressed, so I think its similar.

Other people from my group:

Omayma said that the connection of when April is sad reminds her of a trial scene from 'Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix', one of the seven books of the 'Harry Potter' series. Maybe she said that because the scene was very gloomy and sad. She also said that the connection also reminded her of the 'Hunger Games' series by Suzanne Collins, and the 'Harry Potter' series by J.K. Rowling.

Per said he didn't have any connections in particular about the four chapters we read, and the connections I had.

Vojta said the same thing as Per too.

P.S. I read some of that book, and I suggest that you don't read it, because it has a lot of swear words (I didn't know it had them before I read it, honest).

A note to Ms. S: I hope that you won't think the 6B kids of not having their notes, because most of us had them, except for 2 or 3 people.

I have mine here for proof:

The first one that I found was “infected” on page underdone and it means to contaminate with a disease-producing substance or agent (as bacteria)
The second word that I didn’t was Altar also that on page underdone and means an elevated place or structure normally in stone, as a mound or platform, at which religious rites are performed or on which sacrifices are offered to gods, ancestors, etc.
The third word was coaxed on page 102 and it means actually three things:
1. To obtain by coaxing: We coaxed the secret from him.
2. To manipulate to a desired end by adroit handling or persistent effort: He coaxed the large chair through the door.
3. to attempt to influence by gentle persuasion, flattery, etc.

Another word that I couldn’t understand is “surrounding” on page eighty-nine and it means environing things, circumstances, conditions, etc.; environment: He was too sick to be aware of his surroundings.

The last word that I didn’t understand was convulsion and I found it on page hundred and it means contortion of the body caused by violent, involuntary muscular contractions of the extremities, trunk, and head.

The egypt game-elizabeth in a new home

elizabeth in a new home

So, hi guys, today for the egypt game assignment i did the pictures and I did the moment in which elizabeth and her family(her mum and her two sisters) went in the new home.

Illustrator - Yoonji - 2nd time

Hello all, I was the illustrator this time, so I drew a picture.

Description: This was a picture about when April, one of the main characters, was dressed up in her Egyptian costume, and pretended to receive a message from Isis and the "Mighty Ones (the gods)" in "Egypt (the old outdoor storage in the back of the Professor's antique shop)". She was also imitating a priestess, and Melanie was there too. In the picture, April just opened her velvet box (which she keeps special things in) to reveal a shiny feather, which she explains that it was a message from Isis.
There is the statue of Nefertiti on one side to ensure people that this is "Egypt". There are grass growing on the ground, and the old wooden planks of the storage.

Sorry for the bad quality. I didn't have time to scan it, and I couldn't scan it at home too, so I used the webcam. The webcam is really low in quality, so that's why the picture isn't looking very clear. In real life, its sharper.
Please ignore my hand :D.

literary luminary literature circles

My job is literary luminary circles, this job is find some interesting paragraph or sentences in the book, write it down and write the reason why do I choose them.

1, It wasn't long after wards that the curtain on the small window at the back of the professor's store was pushed very carefully to one side.
I choose this sentence because it will let the reader think what will happen next, will that person kicked them away?
2, It was also Melanie's last chance to put into effect  her plant to get rid of the eyelashes.
This sentence will let reader's think what will she do? Will she steal the eyelashes?
3, she was just crazy about every part of the Egypt game, and she was full of admiring comments.
This sentence let me think about will she join the Egypt game.

The Egypt Game - Omayma - Vocabulary Enricher

So... We meet again
╚(ಠ_ಠ)=┐
My job last week was Vocabulary Enricher.
I found only 5 words out of 7 chapters. Shocking.

The first word I found was underfoot on page 40. It means under one's feet, around one's feet, on the ground. My sentance is: My dog is always underfoot.

The second word I found altar on page 43. Altar means a table in a church which the offerings to the gods are held. The sentence is: My cousin and I tried making an altar for my grandfather.

THA THIRD WORD, is corrugated on page 43 (again). It means a material shaped into parallel ridges so as to give strength. My sentence is: Doctor Duff showed me what corrugated cardboard looks like.

The fourth! Ahh.. Almost done... The fourth word is (well, it's two words) fur stole. Fur stole means a woman's shawl usually made from expensive fabric. My sentence is... DUN DUN DUN: I still have no idea what a fur stole is. Yup, that's my sentence.

Last one! (YES!) The fifth and final word is brooding. It means something depressing. It means to think about something that makes one unhappy, angry, or worried. The sentence is... I hate brooding over pointless things.

DONE! PHEW!
I'll see you next time...

The Egypt Game

This week my job was to summarize all the pages that we read. We as a group decided to read during the break four chapters. My job was to summarize it all on the paper.
This was what I summarized from the book:

April started going to her new school. As we are going through the book April finds a friend called Melanie. Melanie helps her through school. After in the book they become really good friends. April and Melanie were both really interested in The Egypt's Game. They also meet a friend called Elizabeth she moved in the same building that April lived in.

My friend Dajana added that Melanie was very excited about the Egypt Game that she decided to join it.
Also my friend Sarah added that Elizabeth had two sisters.

The key points were:

1. April starts school
2. April finds a friend Melanie
3.Melanie helps her through school
4. Melanie joined the Egypt Game
5. Elizabeth moves in the same building that April lives in.

My next job will be the Illustrator.

Per Summarizer 2nd meeting

My job is to summarize the pages that we read!  A SUMMARIZER   YAY

For this meeting we had to read to page 89.  I was summarizer and i had to summarize what i read.  A thing i want to say this these four chapters were one of the most exiting because of the making of the Egypt Game.  Here is the summary i wrote in my notes:

The chapters we are reading starts with Melanie, Marshall, and April building "Egypt" and they started the Egypt game. They had to persuade Marshall though.  The first chapter ends with the professor looking at the people through the dusty window. Later they start school and Melanie takes Aprils eyelashes away. Many people in the school tease April because of her Hollywood act.  As they play the Egypt game Marshell gets sad because  he can't play a lot so he gets to be a priest.  A new girl moves into casa Rosada which is where Elizabeth is two years younger then April and Melanie which means that she is nine.  Melanie and April have to walk her to school because her mom is always at work.  Elizabeth has 2 sisters that don't live with her and her mom is always trying to get money because Elizabeth's dad died.

This was basically the notes I made just with a bit more detail.
I will now state my key points and describe what they are about
1) "Egypt" and the Egypt game were made.
Description:  They made "Egypt" in the professors backyard which i don't think the professor was totally sure about. The Egypt game they started right after Egypt was made.  I will explain more about this in the second key point.

2) Everybody in the game got their own role
Description:  When they made the game they chose the different roles.  April and Melanie where helpers of Set, an evil good,  while Marshall was a young pharaoh who was going to save Egypt from the helpers of Set.  Later in the game when he isn't able play a lot he becomes a priest during ceremonies.  Every time there  is a ceremony, security (His fluffed squid) hangs on his back.

3) A new girl moves into the apartment
Her name is Elizabeth Chang.  Her family is pour so her mom always has to work, on and on, so Elizabeth has to take a bit care of her own.  Her father had died and her sisters lived somewhere.  She has two sisters that are both younger than her and thinking about that Elizabeth is 9, her sisters must be pretty young.  April and Melanie have to take care of her.

That was All,  Hope i get a good grade :)

Discussion Director - Omayma

HEYA GUYS! My job this week was Discussion Director! This week we needed to read FOUR chapters! I was supposed to ask about 6 questions about the book! Our book is The Egypt Game by Zilpha Keatley Sniyder! So... Here...

Connector-literature Circles by Sarah Vazzoler

Hi guys, this week i did the connector between the book and my actual life.
So, my job is to find connection between the book and the real life in the 33 pages that we read then write down and explain why and how there are this connection.
the book that i am reading is the egypt game and the connection that i found were two:
The first one was about the children in the neighborhood, the book told in paragraph 3/4 that the children were all different, different sizes, different skin colors and someone spoke more than one language.
Does this remind you some connection with the actual life? well, immediately after read it my imagination told me -this is ISB!- well, don't we are all different and some of us speak more than one language?
