The Egypt Game- Zilpha Keatley Snyder

THE EGYPT GAME

Illustrator

The illustration I drew, is of the four children walking to The Great Pyramids, which symbolizes Elizabeth, April, Melanie and Marshall’s journey to The Egypt Game.
In the bottom left corner, the university town in which the children were trick-or-treating is portrayed. These two illustrations are joined into one. Under the veil of darkness the four children were secretly getting away from the group of youngsters, which were being supervised by the two adults, to get to their destination.
The excursion was extremely risky, especially when there was a murderer on the loose.

The illustration covers the text in the chapters.

                                                              Travel Tracer

My job was Travel Tracer. For my job I wrote down in the "Where the action begins" that the action began at Melanie's and April's school. The action happens when the students of  April's and Melanie's class learn about Egypt. The topic of Oracles show up and the class is hooked. When learning about Oracles, Toby knew the teacher was also hooked about that topic and asked her to give further explanation on Oracles. He did that so that she would speak a lot and miss a hard test. The plan worked and worked so well that the students were very fascinated about the topic.
In the next part of my work.... I gave a list about where and what happens.
1. The Egyptians decide to transfer their knowledge of Oracles to Egypt.
2. April organizes an assembly in Egypt for who becomes the Oracle.
3. April becomes the Oracle of Egypt.
4. Egypt becomes better.
My last part of my job... I wrote that the end happens at the end of the chapter. The action is the discovery of Oracles that will stay in the book until the end!

Petar Artful Artist Blog 2

In our second meeting for the Egypt game my job was to be the artful artist. The artful artists job is to find an interesting part from the chapters and make an illustration of it. I drew a picture of Melanie and April preparing for the Egypt game. Unfortunatly the illustration got lost so I wasn't able to upload a picture of it. The reason Why I chose to illustrate this specific action of the story was because it seemed as if it was the rising action. The picture wasn't very detailed but it was clear to see the intention of the drawing. I drew April with her big eyelashes and Melanie as a normal girl with a bit longer hair than an ordinary girl. I used markers to color it and the main colors i used were brown blue and yellow. In conclusion I think that the group members liked the illustration and I think that the discussion went well.

The book we are currently reading is an adventure book called the Egypt Game which was written by Zilpha Keatley Snyder. The book has won a Newberry award in the year 1967. My job was the discussion director, Which is when you have to give certain questions that the group would be willing to discuss. The thirty five pages we were supposed to read were mainly focused on describing the main characters and the setting. My first question or demand was if a member of the group could summarize what happened in a specific chapter. For this question everyone briefly summarized what happened which was great because it meant that everyone read what they were supposed to. My second question was related to connections, I asked the group members if they had any connections to the story. Nina told us a very interesting story about a man and women, relatively old people, who called the police for no reason because Nina and her friend were playing in the grass. In my third question I asked the group members to share their thoughts about the book, who their favorite character is and why. The answers for this question were simple and one sided, everyone chose Melanie. My last but not least question was what do you think will happen next? Everyone suspected that it would have to do something with the professor and because of my further reading it was indeed true that the topic of the next several chapters was the professor. Overall the discussion was very good, everyone stayed on topic and the answers to most of the questions were detailed and interesting.

Nina Discussion Director

This week I was discussion director. I had lot's of different questions but I think that my questions should be a bit more detail.

My Question:
1. Do you think that the professor is the killer? I think that he is not the killer but that he has something to do with the killer, like that he knows what happened or that he knows who the killer is.

2. How did you feel when you found out that the girl was killed? I was very shocked and I didn't know why that happened, I thought that the book would be about Egypt and that no one would die.

3. Do you like halloween? I really like halloween because you get to dress up as anything and you get lot's of candy. I also like that you get to hang out with your friends and do creepy and scary stuff (like scaring other people).

4. What would you do if you found out that a child was killed in your town (street)? I would be pretty shocked and I would ask my parents if we could go out of town until they found the killer. But it would be fun to feel a bit scared :).

5. What do you think will happen next? I think that the kids will meet the professor in his backyard and that they will ask him questions. I also think that the kids will be in trouble because they left the group and went to the professors backyard.

Literacy Circles- Christoffer

This discussion we read to page 98. This time I was Illustrator.

I drew the part where April, Melanie, Elizabeth and Marshall are playing or participating in the Egypt Game. I drew this scene because the Egypt Game is the main thing/setting in the book.

The Egypt Game - Summarizer - Lola

Summarizer

Today I was summarizer and we read the book from page 35 to page 67...

At the beginning, since Melanie and April became friends, the continued hanging out together everyday. Then one day in August, in the library, the Egypt game began. Then in September, April and Melanie took the Egypt game to the Professors backyard. They found a statue of Nefertiti in the Professors backyard. Melanie and April pulled all the weeds and cleaned the backyard. They turned an old shed into a temple. They wanted and succeeded to create an Egyptian atmosphere. They started making some games. They had one when Melanie's little brother, Marshal, was known as Pharaoh Marshamosis. They even created an evil god called Set. While Marshal, Melanie and April were building their game, the Professor started watching them. They don't notice him. Melanie doesn't want April to wear her fake eyelashes to school so she hid them. Dorothea, April's mom, isn't writing to April and April is getting worried. At school April, at first, was such a diva. But later, all of the boys started liking her because of her daring attitude. All of the boys in school gave April a nickname. It was February. The girls and Marshal tidied up the backyard and continued making an Egyptian atmosphere. They also made more games. Then one day, a new girl moved into the Casa Rosada. She was a Chinese girl called Elizabeth Chung. She became friends with Melanie and April. After a lot of thinking, Melania and April told Elizabeth about the Egypt Game!
